Moving Towards a More Gracious Society?
Today was one of the most heartening days I've had. Was heartened at the number(5) of people who gave up seats on my way from outram to boon lay in the section of the carriage that I was in. This heartening phenomena also occured when I was travelling from dhoby gaut to sengkang, whereby 3 people gave up their seats. 1 kind lady even helped an old lady by walking her safely to the door of the carriage =D
This is unlike some of the previous incidents I've come across. There was once a pregnant lady boarded the train & no one gave up their seat. Another standing office lady couldn't stand the sight and lectured the passengers in front of to have a heart and give up his/her seat. Another incident was whereby I gave up my own seat to an old man, but a lady just plonked herself down in the seat as if the old man & I were transparent - infuriating!
Is today's incidences o seat-giving a sign that fellow countrymen are moving towards a more gracious society? I certainly hope so! Little things they may be, but it is what makes the society a warmer place =D
